Finance and Logistics Officer Burundi


The Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue (HD) is a private diplomacy organisation founded on the principles of humanity, impartiality and independence. Its mission is to help prevent, mitigate, and resolve armed conflict through dialogue and mediation.
Burundi is currently facing a major crisis around re-elections processes. HD’s discreet operational profile as well as its extensive network of contacts places it in a good position to support a negotiated solution to the crisis. For this project, HD is looking for a:
Finance and Logistics Officer Burundi
(Based in Nairobi or Bujumbura, with extensive travelling;
starting date: between July and September)
The Finance and Logistics Officer will be hired on a permanent basis and will provide financial and administrative support to HD’s Burundi project, in co-ordination with HD’s head office in Geneva, Switzerland.
Her/his main responsibilities will be to:
  • Support the preparation of project budgets and forecasts;
  • Support the preparation of financial reports in co-ordination with the Finance team and ensure donor procurement guidelines are applied;
  • Act as liaison with HD’s Finance team in Geneva for tracking project costs, cash advances, and reimbursement of expenses through expense claims;
  • Monitor salary allocations and ensure their correct allocation to projects;
  • Ensure travel claims of employees and consultants meet HD’s policies and include the required documentation and signatures;
  • Make all travel arrangements for employees and consultants as well as visitors, including flights, visas accommodation, and insurances;
  • Oversee contractual arrangements of consultants (draft consultancy contracts, prepare or control expense claims, ensure respect of reporting requirements, control invoices and follow-up on signatures);
  • Manage the opening of the new office in Bujumbura
  • Provide support for the preparation of audits.
The position requires extensive travelling.
Qualifications: The successful candidate should hold a degree in finance and administration and have a minimum of four years of relevant experience, including finance and travel management, ideally in the not-for-profit sector. S/he should be flexible, detail-oriented and possess strong co-ordination skills.The successful candidate should be fluent in both English and French. Knowledge of US donor compliance would be considered an advantage.
Personality: The successful candidate should be a flexible team player with a taste for controls and compliance. S/he must be strongly client-oriented, trustworthy, discrete and willing to copy with challenging contexts.
