Interpreter- French , UNION AFRICAINE

The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa's rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a New Partnership Worldwide. Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.
In seeking to achieve this objective, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver, among others, the implementation of a new organizational structure and the filling of all vacant posts of Interpreter.
The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for a position in the Directorate of Conference Management and Publications (DCMP).
1. Post
Job Title: Interpreter- French
Grade: P4
Unit: Directorate of Conferences Management and Publications (DCMP)
Supervisor: Director, DCMP
Duty Station: (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia) or any regional Office
2. Major Duties and Responsibilities
I. To interpret the spoken word from one AU language into French;
II. To provide simultaneous or consecutive interpretation of statements at conferences, meetings, discussions etc;
III. To perform other related duties that may be assigned.
3. Qualifications and Experience Required
A Masters University Degree Languages or Linguistics and an Interpreting qualification from a recognized Interpretation School. A higher qualification will be an added advantage.
Candidtes with first university degree would be considered provided they have 12 years of work experience in similar role.
4. Professional experience required
Candidates must have at least Seven (7) years of progressively relevant working experience in Interpretation and translations.
5. Other Relevant Skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure;
  • A good knowledge of a third AU official language would be an added advantage.
6. Language Requirement
Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Proficiency of two or several other African Union working language(s) would be an added advantage.
7. Tenure of Appointment
The appointment will be made on fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months be consider as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.
8. Least Representative Countries
Candidates from the following least represented countries are encouraged to apply: Eritrea, Central African Republic, Cape Verde, Comoros, Congo (DRC), Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Liberia, Mauritania, Madagascar, Namibia, Sahrawi Arab Republic, SaoTome and Principe, Seychelles and Somalia

10. Remuneration
Indicative basic salary of US$ 40,413.00 (P4 Step 1) per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. Post adjustment (46% of basic salary), Housing allowance 16,819.20 per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other education related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
